Ten Thousand Years

Tempus certainly does Fugit!

Ten thousand years ago, give or take a few millennia, Native Americans were recording data on rock walls that are still publicly accessible in the American Southwest.

The colorful datum above, for instance, can be found somewhere near Moab, Utah.

Fortunately, nowadays, when we have important information to store for future generations, the Library of Congress is at our disposal.

Throughout the world, major countries maintain large institutions devoted to the task of protecting the high points of our culture.

Of course, it is entirely possible that ten thousand years from now — in some unimaginable future — the mountain goat inscribed on the rock wall near Moab, will still be moving from darkness into light.

Will the Library of Congress or the British Museum then still exist?

Given the state of the world today, I’m not taking bets either way.
