..But I don’t think the kitchen loves me

Today I started a book, Traitor by Narayan Sanyal. Yes!! It is the literal translation of the title of the book. The original name? Biswasghatok.

In the book, the protagonist is enjoying breakfast, and one of the food items on his plate is poached eggs. Naturally, this got me craving eggs too. But poached eggs? Too much hassle and I wasn’t in the mood for oily food first thing in the morning.

So, boiled eggs it is.

Specifically, I was aiming for that perfect balance — not too hard, not too soft.

I grabbed an egg, added salt to the water in the pan, and set an alarm for 9 minutes. I even prepared ice to cool the egg down afterward. I was ready to follow every step to achieve that perfect consistency.

After 9 mins, cool down the egg and….

IT WAS STILL VERY MUCH RAW!

Sorry for screaming.

The egg white wasn’t even firm enough to peel off the shell. It was that raw.

But wait — what happened to that foolproof guide on boiling eggs perfectly? I followed it to the letter!

I boiled that egg for 9 minutes and ended up with something that looked like a 4-minute job. Maybe the eggs around here are extra resilient and need more time to soften up.

Anyways that stupid egg was not edible enough. So back to the water it goes. Later mother came and saved me from my kitchen misery.
