Elvis Captivates and Explodes Charisma in EPiC

The king sparkles

Elvis Presley could capture a look. He’d smile, wink with sparkle in his eyes and grab the hearts of his audience. It’s no wonder he was so beloved because he captivated in live performance. He didn’t need the sparkly outfits, although they certainly helped him to shine.

His magnetism comes out magnificently in the documentary film *EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert.* He is spontaneous, passionate and filled with every nuance of the music as he performs. He make audiences cry with heartfelt ballads and scream with joy as he dances to rhythm and blues.

EPiC doesn’t focus on the details of his later life and the backstory of his personal demons, it focuses on the sheer performance abilities of Elvis Presley. Why he was the King.

Epic told just enough about the story of Elvis to make you feel like you understood him as a performer and a human being. It focused on three concerts and interspersed them all to get a flavor of what it was like to see Elvis live.

This film takes you back to Elvis in his prime years, before he became a punchline, before he became addicted to substances and fame. Before people used him up. Back to a simpler time when Elvis performed for the love of his audience.

Producer/Director Baz Luhrmann had discovered the three unknown concert videos while working on the 2022 film Elvis with Austin Butler. He found the performances captured the heart of Elvis and brought them to the public in this concert/performance/documentary film. He also discovered a forty-five minute audio recording of Elvis revealing his life story.

Luhrmann describes EPiC as “Something new in the Elvis canon… that befits the magnitude of Elvis as a performer but also offers deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life.”

There’s definitely thousands of impersonators, and young Austin Butler who was in the 2022 Luhrmann Elvis film did a superior job of capturing Elvis as a young man. But there’s still only one Elvis. He had gifts and a rich, beautiful voice seemingly so easy to produce. He truly loved sharing music and as he said in the film, he loved all types of music.

I was too young to see Elvis in concert, to really get him. I feel fortunate Luhrmann created this film, in order to capture Elvis for those of us who never saw him on stage. And to document who Elvis was for future generations.

EPiC provided an opportunity for me to understand the magnetic personality he gushed on stage. By sharing this movie in the theater, with other people, it almost felt as if we were in concert with the King as his sensuality and warmth just poured out of the screen.
