Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Il-Fosos Square, Floriana, Malta What does a dance teacher do when Europe’s biggest free music festival lands in town? I, of course, attempted a plié in the crowd — and almost got trampled.

6:30 pm — Miriana Conte Kicks Things Off

I arrived just in time to catch Miriana Conte, our own local Eurovision queen, opening the show with her hit Kant (yes, like the philosopher, but with more glitter) and her latest track Ghajjejt. She returned later to duet with Sarah Bonnici — and together they covered Guess by Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, which had even the stiffest shoulders bobbing along with pride.We Rave You

8:00 pm — Ella Henderson Soars

Next up: Ella Henderson. Her voice soared on hits like Ghost, Glitterball, Filthy Rich, and Me & You. Standing mere metres away, I considered choreographing a spontaneous jazz routine — but thought better of it. The crowd was already entranced.We Rave You

9:00 pm — Damiano David Brings the Drama

Then came the dramatic entrance of Damiano David — yes, that Måneskin frontman. With stripped-back instrumentals, he delivered emotional versions of Funny Little Fears songs like Voices and Born With a Broken Heart. He even gave us a haunting cover of Hozier’s Too Sweet. I tried to capture the vibe in a slow-motion tendu but nearly lost my airtime card through the crowd.We Rave You

10:00 pm — ALOK Ends with Epic Energy

Finally, ALOK closed out the night with a bang. His “Keep Art Human” energy brought 45 dancers onstage, immersive visuals, and firework magic to boot. He premiered Unforgettable (feat. Daecolm & Malou) — and let’s just say Malta’s summer air never felt so electric.We Rave You

As a dance teacher, watching these pros made me want to recalibrate. I mean — forty-five dancers, fireworks, pop-star charisma — how can I not take notes? Malta’s biggest stage maybe — my classes maybe not quite there yet — but a girl can dream.
