OpenSUSE to Fedora

Before you ask:

My current configuration

As you can see, it’s not that bad. While it’s quite old, it has been my companion for years and my only machine.

As for distro-hoping, I’ve been doing it since I started using Linux really, and I do it in the metal so installation process is important for me. However as I use only this machine (it’s a laptop BTW) I want to stay at a stable base or at least a strong base to run all my required operation and my phase of distrohoping is over really. Been dead for a while.

I’ve used them all arch, debian, fedora, their forks and subsets — hell even FreeBSD at one point. I simply don’t like debian ( I’m clearly too young and raw to understand it’s importance maybe); i feel its overhyped. I love arch yet arch feels like that incident/relationship which you gotta grow out of to be a man. Same analogy can be given to fedora too, then again I started linux seriously with arch. Arch — I love, and we’ll leave it there.

OpenSuse is nice, stable, rock-solid, takes 4 hour to install and makes sure everything is in place and good. OpenSuse also needs whole lot of memory and power to operate. It’s best distro for when you have a DESKTOP PC and upgradable specs. I am pretty pleased with OpenSuse all my use except for I use laptop and despite my laptop being so-so comparing at today’s time, it’s still not a PC. And it has crazy fans, battery has to be changed every year because I destroy them. And OpenSuse is bit too much to bear.

On why I’m moving to Fedora, I simply like Fedora. I don’t think i have had bad things happen while my use of fedora other than using extensions in Gnome breaking it. Regardless I’m going for sway fedora which I used for around 2 weeks before I used OpenSuse for few months.

Oh and zypper (OpenSuse Package Manager) in suse is sweet along with Yast however it can be confusing at times. dnf (Fedora Package Manager) hasn’t given me any problem in my memory.

And for my further computation and laptop use, I really want to use windows manager as opposed to desktop environment and fedora or arch as opposed to debian, ubuntu or OpenSuse.

Fedora with sway has really nice starter, as in the default config is good and for my laptop all my optional key works from the installation. The installation is easy, straight-forward and quick and it doesn’t consume as much battery and power. The ricing and make up of it will be a hassle I’m sure and some normal stuff like screenshots, HDMI connection, switching bluetooth, wifi and audio signal, enabling night light — the settings of KDE and Gnome will be missed, so I might eventually add Gnome as secondary display manager.
