If you’ve spent any time in AI video this year, you know the problem: three flagship models, three completely different personalities, and every comparison video online seems to crown a different winner.
Meanwhile you’re sitting there with a deadline and a credit balance, wondering which one won’t waste both.
I’ve spent the last few months generating hundreds of clips across all three product ads, character scenes, cinematic b-roll. Here’s what I actually learned, including one thing most comparison posts conveniently skip.
First, the Elephant in the Room: Sora Is (Mostly) Gone
Let’s get this out of the way, because it changes everything.
OpenAI shut down the Sora consumer app in April 2026, and API access is winding down by September. The official line was “strategic reallocation of computers.” Whatever the real reason, the practical effect is the same: you can’t build a workflow around Sora anymore.
That stings, honestly. Sora 2 had the best physics of the three — objects moved with real weight and momentum. When I generated a clip of shampoo being poured over hair (yes, I make a lot of hair care ads), Sora was the only model where the liquid behaved like actual liquid instead of animated syrup.
But “best” doesn’t matter if it’s being switched off. So while I’ll cover Sora below for completeness, treat this as really a two-horse race — with Sora as the cautionary tale.

The Three Models at a Glance
Sora 2 (OpenAI)
The physics king. Motion realism and long-duration coherence (up to 60 seconds) were its calling cards, and it added synchronized audio to match Veo.
Strengths:
- Most convincing physics and object weight
- Strong multi-subject scenes and complex transitions
- Distinctive cinematic “look” people could recognize instantly
Weaknesses:
- Expensive — a 30-second clip via API ran around $22, roughly 5x Veo’s fast mode
- Consumer app shut down; API sunsetting
- No future. That’s a pretty big weakness.
Kling 3.0 (Kuaishou)
The value monster. Kling 3.0 landed in February 2026 as the first model with native 4K at 60fps, and it can generate clips up to three minutes in a single run — the longest of any major model.
Strengths:
- Cheapest premium model, around $0.10/second
- Native 4K/60fps output
- Best-in-class human subjects — faces, hands, body mechanics
- The O3 variants add a reasoning layer (think o-series, but for video) that noticeably improves complex prompts
Weaknesses:
- The web interface can feel cluttered if you’re new
- Audio is newer and less polished than Veo’s
- Chinese-owned, which matters for some enterprise clients (fair or not)
Veo 3.1 (Google)
The safe, polished professional. True 4K, synchronized audio baked in from the start, and the best prompt adherence of the three — what you type is what you get, usually on the first roll.
Strengths:
- Best prompt adherence — fewest re-rolls
- Native audio (dialogue, ambient, music) is the most mature
- Official Google API, clean docs, enterprise-friendly
- Fast mode is genuinely good value for the quality
Weaknesses:
- Standard tier gets pricey at volume
- Human motion can occasionally look slightly “video game” compared to Kling
- More conservative outputs — less stylistic personality than Sora had
Head-to-Head: Where Each One Actually Wins
Prompt Adherence: Veo 3.1
This is the boring metric that matters most in real work. If a model nails your prompt on attempt one instead of attempt four, it’s effectively 4x cheaper regardless of sticker price.
Veo wins here, clearly. Structured prompts with camera direction, lighting, and style notes come back closest to spec. Kling is good but occasionally freelances. Sora was the most “creative” which is a polite way of saying it sometimes did its own thing.
Human Subjects: Kling 3.0
If your video has people in it talking heads, hands using a product, dancers, anything with skin and joints Kling is the one to beat right now. Faces stay consistent across shots, hands have the right number of fingers, and body mechanics hold up under slow-motion scrutiny.
Audio: Veo 3.1, but Kling is closing fast
Veo pioneered native synced audio and it’s still the most reliable — lip-sync, ambient sound, and dialogue in a single pass. Kling 3.0 added voice capabilities and it’s improving monthly, but if audio is central to the clip, Veo is the safer bet today.
Price and Volume: Kling 3.0, and it’s not close
At roughly $0.10/second, Kling is the cheapest premium model on the market — about $0.50 for a typical clip. If you’re doing high-volume iteration (say, testing 30 ad variations for Meta), the math only works with Kling.

My Real-World Test: A Product Ad
Here’s a concrete example from my own work. I needed a 15-second hair care ad: close-up of hair in slow motion, product bottle rotating, a hand applying serum, soft studio lighting.

Pick by job, not by hype:
- Making ads or social content at volume? → Kling 3.0. The price-per-usable-second is unmatched, and human subjects are its home turf.
- Need broadcast-polish brand work with audio? → Veo 3.1. Best prompt adherence, most mature audio, and the enterprise-safe choice if clients ask questions.
- Cinematic shorts with complex physics? → This was Sora’s lane. With it gone, split the difference: Veo for prompt control, Kling O3 for the reasoning-heavy complex scenes.

One last piece of advice from the Sora situation: don’t marry a model. The leaderboard has flipped three times in eighteen months. Build your prompts and workflow to be portable, because whatever wins today probably won’t be winning next spring.
