Constellation model home > Aquarius
This is a 3D model of the constellation Aquarius, the Water-Bearer. The resolution is 9x9x9 places, so the star placements are to the closest XYZ point in the 9x9x9 volume. Depth is relative to the star’s actual distance relative to one another. Relative to the star placements, the observer (Earth) would be outside of the model somewhere near x: 5, y: 5, z: -1. For best viewing hold the model at arm’s length to minimize distortion due to parallax. The model space is 9" x 9" x 9" on a 12" x 12" base, and is built from cardboard, bamboo skewers and cord.

ε — 951, 229ly β — 777, 612ly ι — 551, 172ly α — 589, 758ly η — 381, 183ly θ — 461, 191ly λ — 263, 391ly δ — 241, 159ly ψ — 161, ~200ly
So, δ is the closest object. α is the most distant. 758–159=599ly, the total depth of the model.
Next we do the math for each: ε is 229, so we take 229-(the closest distance) = 229–159=70; 70/599:x/9; 70*9=630=599x, x=1.05, so epsilon stays at the front, z=1.
Beta is 612, so 612–159=453*9/599=6.8, so β is at z=7.
Iota at 172ly is very close to delta at 159ly so that makes z=1.
Eta is at 183 also very close to delta so it is z=1.
Theta is also close to delta. z=1.
Lambda, 391–159=232, 232*9/599=3.48, z=3
Psi is actually two stars and this is rough average but it is also close enough to delta that it is also z=1.
