LI-FI — a basic project
LI-FI — a basic project
Sobasically, this is the project that I made in my first semester of graduation. I took a class called Basics of Electronics, where at the end of the semester, I had to present a small project demonstrating my knowledge of the basics of electronics. That’s where I created a working model of Li-Fi
now what is LIFI??
the Definition says “LiFi, or Light Fidelity, is a wireless communication technology that uses light to transmit data instead of radio waves, which are used in WiFi” in short we are transferring data with light.
How Li-Fi works??
so when we are transferring data through a cable, we simply encode data into binary code and converting it into electrical signals, the waves represents 0s and 1s,

wave up means 1 and wave down means 0, Cables uses Electric waves and WIFI uses Radio waves similar to this, LiFi uses Light to transmit 0s and 1s but its so fast normal human eye cant see it and encode data is received by light-sensitive photodetectors, such as photodiodes or image sensors, on the receiving end.
Use cases of LiFi ??
- Internet of Things (IoT) Integration: LiFi can facilitate high-speed, low-latency communication between IoT devices, enabling seamless connectivity and data exchange in smart homes, industrial automation, and healthcare applications.
- Smart Lighting Systems: LiFi-enabled LED bulbs can serve dual purposes by providing both illumination and wireless data transmission, making them ideal for smart lighting systems in homes, offices, and public spaces.
- High-Security Environments: The inherent security advantages of LiFi, such as the inability of light to penetrate through walls, make it suitable for use in highly secure environments such as government facilities, military installations, and financial institutions.

Now for the Practical Part lets get into it
we are going to transmit Audio using LiFi and for that we need some materials, here is the list
- 2x 3.5mm Male Jack (we can cut an aux cable in half for this )
- 1x Speaker
- 1x mobile (or any device that can play audio and has 3.5mm port)
- 1x 1 Watt LED
- 1x 9 Volt Battery
- 1x 9 Volt Battery Connector
- 1x 100 Ohm Resistor
- 1x 5–6 Volt Solar Panel
here is the circuit

you can watch this *video or have a look at this [artical ](https://www.instructables.com/LiFi-Experiment-Audio-Transmission-Through-Light/)*for better understanding of circuit
after you everything in place its testing time!!
-
Connect transmitter to Phone (or any other device that can play audio)
-
connect Receiver to Speaker
-
Connect the 9v Battery
-
Place the LiFi Transmitter and LiFi Receiver Face to Face with each other with a little bit Distance (around 5–7cm)
-
Play song from your mobile you will hear it playing it in you speaker
and now next question — what is the future of LiFi
for this Lets Ask ChatGPT
- Technological Advancements: LiFi technology is still in its early stages, and further advancements in components like LED lights and photodetectors could significantly enhance its performance and reliability.
- Integration Challenges: Integrating LiFi into existing infrastructure and devices may pose challenges, but ongoing research aims to address these issues and make LiFi more practical for widespread adoption.
- Use Cases and Applications: LiFi could find applications in environments where WiFi is impractical or where security is paramount, such as hospitals, aircraft, and military installations. Additionally, LiFi can be useful in IoT (Internet of Things) applications, where a large number of connected devices require high-speed, secure communication.
- Market Adoption and Investment: The adoption of LiFi depends on market demand and investment in research and development. Companies and industries need to see the value proposition of LiFi and invest in its implementation.
- Standardization Efforts: Standardization plays a crucial role in the widespread adoption of any technology. Efforts to establish global standards for LiFi could accelerate its deployment and interoperability.
Overall, while LiFi holds promise as a complementary technology to WiFi, its future depends on continued innovation, industry adoption, and addressing technical challenges. As these factors align, LiFi could indeed have a significant role to play in the future of wireless communication.
