Democrats Are Still Running Against Trump

Is it a blueprint for defeat?

Hey, how about we take a break from All Trump, All the Time and take a look at what’s happening with Democrats. You know me. I’m always worried about their talent for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The Democratic Governor’s Association (DGA) had their annual meeting over the weekend. Boy, were they happy. Two, count ’em two, big wins in New Jersey and Virginia’s governors’ races. Surely that means that they are going to go on to more big victories over the Republicans, right?

The problem seems to be that they are all still running against Trump. My question is why? Trump won’t be on the ballot ever again. Certainly not in the 2026 midterms and definitely not in the presidential race in 2028. So, uh, why are they even talking about him?

Gov. Laura Kelly of Kansas, the previous chair of the DGA says that the winners in New Jersey and Virginia ran “pitch-perfect” campaigns and provided a blueprint on how to win going forward.

Really?

Cuz here in New Jersey, Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill literally ran against Trump because the Republican candidate, Jack Ciatarelli all but promised that if he won, Trump would be calling the shots in Trenton.

I’m pretty sure that, going forward, no Republican candidate for governor, or any other office, is going to promise that Trump will be calling the shots if they win. The big news now is that Republicans are distancing themselves from Trump.

Come on, Dems, try to keep up.

Members of the DGA say it’s because of Trump’s dismal approval ratings. Really? Who the fuck cares about approval ratings? Republicans are putting daylight between themselves and Trump because of that whole affordability thing that Trump claims doesn’t exist.

Yeah, it doesn’t exist for him. But it definitely exists for the rest of us. He’s pulling a Joe Biden and claiming that the economy is getting better when it is not.

Ya gotta love Trump’s faith in himself and his power of persuasion. In his mind, all he has to do is say that affordability doesn’t exist and, POOF, it goes away.

Sorry, I digress.

But that’s exactly what the Democrats should be running on. Affordability. Prices going up faster than incomes. And do we want to talk about those lousy jobs reports? Nobody is hiring, so if you’re unemployed, you’re shit outa luck. And then there’s the unconscionable increases in health insurance premiums.

So much there to run on and all they can talk about is Trump? Come on, the guy is a buffoon and most likely will be dead this time next year.

Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado who is running for governor there said:

“We need to fight Mr. Trump, but it’s not enough. We also have to have a compelling vision of where the country is going to go.”

How sad is that? It’s been over a year since the election disaster and Democrats still do not have any agreement on policies or a platform.

They just expect that people will vote for them because they’re not Trump.
