What is legal is not always moral.

In study of the law, we oft were told: The heart of man obeys no magistrate; For statutes bind the deed, not yet the soul, And what is lawful is not ever right.

This dawn hath shown me clearer than before — Men tremble more at law than fear their God. They hide in crowds, yet cannot flee their name; For guilt, though silent, follows like a shade.

Therefore, be thou upright though law approve thee; Let conscience be thy counsel and thy crown. For justice written is but mortal ink, Yet righteousness — that liveth in the heart of God.
