Creepshow (1982) TRAILER REVIEW: Stephen King, Leslie Nielsen, Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Savini, Christine Forrest, Ed Harris

This is an anthology horror with 5 stories directed by George Romero, the OG zombie guy, written by Stephen King, and special effects by Tom Savini. It is also an homage to 1950s horror comics. Let’s see how they fit 5 stories in a 2-minute trailer. It begins with COMING SOON! The font and art style was very much like an old-school comic. It’s very cool.

The voice-over began. Even that sounds like the horror voice from 1950s radio. “Coming Soon….”

A meteor hits the ground and explodes.

You see a rotting corpse as wind and lightning flash over its face.

“…Jolting Tales of Horror. CREEPSHOW!”

It’s very cool. Lightning strikes over the CREEPSHOW Logo.

“From the author of Carry, The Shining, and Cujo….”

The lightning and thunder strike again.

“…and the creator of Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. You’ll SCREAM at ghastly ghouls.”

It also has a very Thriller feel to it. You see the face of a woman SCREAM. A ghoul crawls out of the grave.

You see a female ghoul haunting Leslie Nielsen right outside his bedroom.

“CRINGE at weird kids.”

You then see a little boy stick a needle on a voodoo doll.

“And SHIVER at the doings of evil doctors.”

You see someone uncovering a corpse at a hospital or morgue. It still looks fresh. It also looks kinda fake. However, I am more forgiving of 80s horror and practical effects, even if it looks fake or ridiculous. I don’t like the modern style of horror filled with CGI. That looked FAKE, with a capital F, for me.

You see an old doctor roll across his clinic using an office chair. He said, “This is going to be EXTREMELY PAINFUL Mr. Verill.” Mr. Verill is Stephen King, who did an excellent comic performance. E.G. Marshall played the doctor. He has a nefarious voice and face, but it’s ultimately comical, in line with the comic acting of Stephen King.

“CREEPSHOW will…grown on you…”

We are POV inside a box, looking at an old man looking at us. You then see the eyes of a monster, perhaps a werewolf, inside the box. Another old man grabbed inside the box, but he SCREAMED in pain. The lighting turned into a flashing red.

You see Stephen King covered in hair. Is he turning into the werewolf?

“…and give you the CREEPS.”

An old doctor pulled out a white sheet revealing thousands of real cockroaches under. You also see thousands of cockroaches coming out of a kitchen drain. You see a thousand cockroaches attacking the doctor as he SCREAMS in terror.

You see actor Hal Holbrook saying, “Nah, this is gonna be an entirely new experience.” He grabbed a woman by the collar. I think this would be a different type of horror, something about domestic abuse.

You then see the gruesome mouth of the werewolf with its saliva and yellow teeth as it GROWLS and ROARS.

“CREEPSHOW, the most fun you’ll ever have being SCARED.”

I think this will be a fun and scary horror film. It offers variety, as it tells five different stories in a 2-hour run time.
