One Day, A New Attempt…

Good morning! I’ve recently started trying something new.

Some of you who have been following me may have already noticed, but I’ve been experimenting with Patreon. I’m still in the early stages and my content isn’t fully organized yet, but I discovered that it allows you to live stream directly from your browser, save archives, and even distribute content as a podcast through Spotify integration. On top of that, it also provides paid subscriptions system.

To be honest, I used to feel a psychological barrier about speaking continuously in front of a computer to an unseen audience — it almost felt like talking to myself. But recently, my expectation of connecting with people who resonate with me has grown stronger than that hesitation, so I decided to give it a try. At this point, it’s completely unknown territory.

The tools are right in front of me. There’s no way I can be good at it from the start. I’ll learn as I go, and try to find the way that feels most natural and comfortable for me. That’s the mindset I want to continue with for a while.

There were actually several reasons that pushed me to take this step, but one of them was attending a lecture last weekend by Mr. Shu Yamaguchi, even though I was still physically limited and wearing a brace. It was about an hour long, and he spoke very clearly and logically about Japan’s economy and society. What resonated with me most was his idea of “Old Types” and “New Types.”

I had already been feeling that society, lifestyles, and values were changing significantly, but I couldn’t quite articulate it myself. His talk helped put those vague thoughts into clear words. The points that particularly struck me were:

There were many other points, but these really deepened my understanding. Let me rephrase them in a way that feels right to me:

It’s a very powerful message.

It felt like this pushed me forward at a time when I was feeling uncertain and searching in the dark. In a rapidly changing world, I had been feeling that my past experiences and values were no longer enough to navigate it — but this gave me a new perspective.

Last night, I tested live streaming on Patreon a few times, and surprisingly, it was quite simple to use. It really made me feel, “You just have to try things.”

That said, when it comes to “What should I actually talk about?”, I thought I’d start with a self-introduction, so I made a rough list of topics. But once I hit the live button, I realized it’s not so easy to speak smoothly. A simple memo isn’t enough if you want to communicate clearly — you need structure and flow. Of course, that’s true even in normal conversations.

At the same time, I found it interesting that by speaking live — even as if I were talking to myself — I could organize my thoughts and trace back my memories in real time. It feels like a very useful tool. And if someone happens to listen and resonate with it, that could create a sense of connection. That’s truly encouraging.

This morning, March 30th, I also tried Instagram Live. I’ve been posting updates on Facebook and Instagram, but this felt like a slightly different kind of connection. I used to feel some resistance toward Instagram Live, but given my current physical limitations, I really appreciated the immediacy of it. Friends and acquaintances from both Japan and abroad casually joined, and being able to exchange simple messages in real time felt very meaningful. I’m truly grateful that people take the time to check in.

I’ve been thinking about what kind of value I can offer based on my past experiences. By sharing what’s inside my head, I feel like I can begin to see a new direction for the future.

This kind of expression might require more courage than it seems. But instead of aiming for perfection from the start, I believe there’s great value in simply trying.
