Concerns of a Severed Head

The Daily Word #39 — Ritzy (404)

“Hey, Adam, your milk expires today,” a voice said as I opened the fridge.

I had forgotten he was in there.

I looked at the handsome blonde severed head inside.

“Yeah, yeah…” I said, taking the milk.

Just as I was about to close the fridge…

“Hey, hey, don’t close it!” he yelled. “I’m getting claustrophobic. Keep it open.”

“Come on. My electricity bill will spike.”

“Then move me somewhere else. You said you’d buy a cooler.”

“Yeah, only if I get a bonus at work,” I said, sitting at the kitchen table with my cereal. “And a cooler won’t help the bills anyway.”

“I could help you make money. I was an investment broker,” he said proudly.

“You remember your job?”

“Of course. I’m just that good.”

“Yeah, right.”

“Did you just scoff at me?” he fumed with his little head.

“Well, you wouldn’t be here if you were that good,” I said, eating my cereal.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” he snapped. “You’re the one who broke into my house and killed me.”

“Well, if you hadn’t woken up, you wouldn’t have felt a thing.”

“You could’ve knocked me unconscious,” he snapped. “But no, you killed me, cut off my head, brought me here and stuffed me in your fridge. I still don’t know why the hell you did that. And you even have a job. Go do the job like a normal person, for God’s sake.

“The job pays the bills. Not the thrills!” I said with a smirk. “Everybody needs a hobby. I just didn’t expect one of my collectible heads to start talking.”

He stared at me.

“You’re even crazier than I thought.”

“I know.”

“I’ll buy a mini cooler and keep you in my office,” I continued. “I don’t want my friends freaking out over your stupid-ass head.”

“What friends?” he smirked. “Your other collectibles in your ritzy-ass office? They’re at least quiet. I still remember your reaction when I talked for the first time. If only I’d had a phone.”

I stared at his laughing face. Then I stood up, walked to the fridge, and closed the door.

His muffled screams turned into curses, then apologies, then begging.

“You wait there,” I said. “I’ll open it when I get back from work. Be good now and get ready to teach me trading.”

The fridge screamed behind me as I got ready for work.
