A Mountaineering Epic
The Wickersham Wall on Denali (formerly Mount McKinley) is one of the most challenging and dangerous mountain faces in the world. Top to bottom, it is higher than anything on Everest. The extreme risk kept anyone from climbing it until the first direct ascent by seven Harvard climbers in 1963. John Krakauer, author of Into Thin Air, called that climb, “so bold or foolish that… it still hasn’t been repeated.” And it may never be.
