Salatiga (8/5) — SMP Kristen Satya Wacana held a cultural showcase at the Recital Hall today as the final project of the 8th grade co-curricular program, carrying the theme Dolanan Bocah. The showcase featured drama, music, as well as modern and traditional dance, highlighting children’s life.

This was stated by the vice principal of SMP Kristen Satya Wacana in her opening remarks. “The theme Dolanan Bocah is connected with children’s life — how they socialize, how they carry out their school activities, and how they develop teamwork with their friends,” she said.

The showcase also aimed to convey the importance of preserving traditional games in the modern era.

“The hope is that this showcase can be a lesson for the children that traditional games, although considered less modern, should hold cultural value and can continue to exist in this modern era,” the vice principal added.

The performance team consisted of 8th grade students, while the supporting team included 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students, as well as university students. This was explained by Mr. Andrean, one of the teachers of SMP Kristen Satya Wacana who was also involved in the cultural showcase.

The drama performance highlighted the difference between traditional and modern games, as children today tend to be more interested in modern ones. Traditional games presented included gobak sodor, congklak, bekel, cublak-cublak suweng, and slepdur.

The showcase also featured traditional songs, such as Segantang Lada from Kepulauan Riau, which was performed in the form of an ensemble and dance by 9th grade students.

According to one of the performers, Clairine, she enjoyed the entire process — from practice and preparation to the final performance.

The showcase concluded with applause from the audience throughout the show, reflecting their engagement during the performance.
