T2 Linux 25.10 “Never Obsolete” Extends Europe’s Most Portable Distro with Broader Hardware Reach

The long-running T2 Linux System Development Environment (SDE) has released version 25.10, code-named “Never Obsolete.” The update continues the project’s trademark focus on portability, reproducibility, and longevity — delivering a system that runs on everything from the latest Qualcomm X1-Elite ARM64 SoCs to 1990s-era SGI MIPS64 O2 workstations and Sony PlayStation 3 consoles.

7 600 Package Updates and AI-Assisted Maintenance

According to the T2 project team, the new release integrates over 6500 changesets and 7600 package updates. A notable addition is the “Data” automation bot, an AI-driven maintenance system that continuously monitors upstream repositories, tests integrations, and commits verified package refreshes. The developers describe it as a balance of automation and transparency designed to keep T2 among the most up-to-date Linux distributions while preserving manual review and reproducible builds.

Updated Core Toolchain

T2 25.10 ships with GCC 15.2, LLVM/Clang 20.1.8, glibc 2.42, Musl 1.2.5, uClibC 1.0.54, Linux 6.16.10, and Mesa 25.1.9, alongside a refreshed Wine, Qemu, OpenJDK, etc. The release also unifies package metadata formats and improves build-time estimation for systems with simultaneous multithreading.

Legacy and Embedded Hardware Lives On

Modern User Experience

Beyond the nostalgic hardware coverage, T2 25.10 advances its modern side with Wayland desktops on more architectures and the addition of Phosh, providing an open mobile interface for ARM and RISC-V devices. The release also includes fixes for Firefox and Thunderbird on big-endian RISC systems and continues shipping mesa-legacy for older GPUs.

A European Take on Digital Sovereignty

The project highlights its roots with the slogan “Designed in Germany — mostly made in Europe.” T2’s maintainers frame the distribution as part of a broader push for digital sovereignty and technological self-reliance: an auditable, reproducible build system allowing individuals and institutions to maintain complete control over their software stacks without dependence on external cloud services or proprietary infrastructure.
