Things to Consider While Storing Cement on Site — XFACTORY.IN

Generally for medium to big construction projects the cement is ordered in bulk. Despite being the most used material on site all the bulk ordered cement will not be used at the same time. Cement is slowly consumed throughout the duration of the project until it is completed. Therefore mostly 75% of cement is always stored away on and around the site. However proper caution must be taken to store cement, if not it might hamper the cement quality and performance and also slow down the project and waste a lot of money. We have compiled certain precautions and guidelines to pay heed to while storing cement.
Building Specifics
First off cement should be stored in a building that is leak proof with no moisture at all. Cement as a raw material reacts very vigorously with water creating an exothermic reaction. There should be a minimal number of windows in the building where the cement is stored so as to avoid moisture circulation through air.
Stacking specifics Cement should never be directly placed on the floor and should be 150 mm — 200 mm above the ground. Placing them on a wooden plank of the same width or height would solve this issue. Also maintain a space of 600 mm all around from the walls while stacking cement bags.
Stacking
Cement bags should be stacked very close to each other making a tightly packed structure to prevent minimal to no air circulation between the stacks. The height of the stack should not be more than 10 bags to prevent lumping of cement under pressure. The width shouldn’t be more than 4 bags. It is also recommended not to stack cement more than 8 bags to prevent the risk of it toppling over.
Stacking order
Stack the cement in an order which would allow you to use the oldest bag first and the latest bag, later on, to keep the cement strength on par with project pace. Have a label or a date of receipt on the cement stack which would, later on, help to indicate the cement age.
Storage during monsoon
When it is required to store cement for a long period of time or during the monsoon; completely enclose the stack by a waterproofing membrane such as polyethylene.
