31 Days of Horror: Revenge (2017)

After watching eight parts of the Friday the 13th franchise, it’s nice to actually watch a film that’s honestly really good. I needed a break from the unstoppable Jason Voorhees, so I decided to watch Revenge (2017) for Day #21 of 31 Days of Horror.

Written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, Revenge is a film about Jen (played by Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz) and Kevin (played by Kevin Janssens). Every year, Kevin and his two friends go on a hunting trip. Kevin invites Jen to come with him to the getaway a few days early before his two friends come out. However, the friends arrive a day early. This leads to one of the friends raping Jen. The three men attempt to cover up everything, but it only leads to a battle to the death pitting Jen verse the three men.

I really enjoyed this tale of revenge. Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz is an amazing actress. Her facial expressions were great. Kevin Janssens was equally entertaining. I thought the action scenes were intense. There was more blood in this film than most Quentin Tarantino films.

I’ve never watched a film by Fargeat before, but she did a great job with Revenge. I especially felt creeped out by the close-up shots of the ants. If you know, you know.

If you are triggered by rape or violence toward women, I would advise you think before watching it.
