Do You Like Your Name? — A Writing Challenge

Yes I do — Its an unplanned Acronym

Since I remember, I have always loved my name. It feels royal, regal, rare.

There was a phase when I wanted to understand the meaning of my name. And once I knew, I was convinced — it matched my personality very well.

It means softness in behaviour, and while growing up, I was a soft-hearted person. Later, life changed me. Just a little.

I still remember the day clearly.

It was a hot afternoon in Kolkata. We were having lunch in the dining room and suddenly — I had a eureka moment.

My name was an acronym.

VINITA = VInod + NIshi + TAruna

My dad. My mom. My younger sister. And let me remind you — my sister is 3 years younger than me.

Some bonds are just meant to happen.

It’s like my name carries my whole world.

I also feel it’s a bit unique. Except one of my mom’s best friends, I have not personally come across anyone with this name in the last four decades. I like that uniqueness.

What really irritates me though is when people write it as VINITHA or VINEETA. That’s not me. And then begins the process of corrections and explanations.

But now… I am used to it.

I also feel oddly proud when I come across a celebrity with my name. And irrationally annoyed when I see a dud with it.

It’s like I have a copyright. Like people should take my permission before using this name.

So to answer the questions:

Do you like your name? Yessss

Did you ever wish it were something else? Nooo

Would you change it if you could? Nooooo

And what has your name taught you about who you are? An amalgamation of genes. And love.

Sriram Yaladandi 🌸Preeti Pathak🌸 Rishita Sharma💗 Thanks for this amazing and interesting writing challenge. I had been waiting for something like this to tell the whole world how my name is so unique.
