MAPLE GROVE, MN — In a shocking revelation that rocked the Peterson household at 7:23 AM this morning, dad Mark Peterson, 33, discovered that the crusts on bread are not only edible but “taste exactly like bread,” family sources report.
The incident occurred while Peterson was preparing lunch for daughter Emma, 5, when he became distracted by her interpretive dance routine about why Velociraptors are late for everything.
“I’ve been cutting off crusts for three years,” Peterson told Channel 7 News, holding what appeared to be his first whole sandwich since becoming a parent. “THREE YEARS. Do you know how many perfectly good bread edges I’ve thrown away? I did the math in the shower. I could’ve fed a small village with my crust waste.”
Peterson’s wife, Jessica, 31, was at work during the incident. She texted only that her husband had “completely lost it over bread” and did not elaborate further.
Crisis escalates with vegetable discovery
The situation deteriorated further at 12:47 PM when Peterson witnessed 3-year-old son Jake consume an entire serving of carrots after Peterson rebranded them as “orange crunchers.”
“Apparently marketing works on preschoolers,” Peterson admitted. “Who knew that calling broccoli ‘little trees’ would make them edible? I’ve been arguing with a toddler about nutrition when I should’ve been working in advertising.”
Separate meals revealed to be unnecessary
Peterson later admitted he had been unaware of this for the entirety of Jake’s eating life. Texts reviewed by Channel 7 News confirm that Jessica, informed him of this fact in March, June, and twice in October. “Apparently they can eat the same food as adults,” Peterson said, staring at a regular-sized apple. “This whole time. A regular apple.”
Children confirm father’s breakdown
Emma Peterson, 5, provided her account of the morning’s events from the family’s living room. “Daddy ate the brown part of the sandwich and didn’t die,” she reported. “Then he started talking to the bread like it was a person. It was weird, even for Daddy.”
The family cat, Mr. Whiskers, 4, was unavailable for comment but appeared judgmental from his kitchen counter perch, witnesses reported.
Psychologist weighs in on dad’s revelations
Dr. Rebecca Johnson, a licensed family therapist at Hennepin County Family Services, weighed in.
“We see this in roughly 73% of fathers during what we call the ‘Negotiation Plateau’ — typically years two through four,” Dr. Johnson explained. “Mr. Peterson has simply entered the Acceptance Phase, which we formally categorize as ‘Oh, apparently kids will just eat stuff.’ We’re hoping to publish findings next spring.”
Local grocery store adapts to demand
The Peterson revelations triggered panic-buying at local SuperTarget as other confused fathers descended on the produce section demanding “little trees” and “orange crunchers.”
“We’ve had to post signs,” confirmed store manager Janet Williams. “One dad asked three employees where to find the ‘skinny fun sticks’ before his wife texted him it was green beans. We started a Dad Translation Guide near the vegetables. It’s going well.”
Peterson retreats to garage for reassessment
As of 4:30 PM, Peterson has retreated to his garage with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (crusts included) to reassess his parenting strategy. A whiteboard, visible through the garage window, contains the words “WHAT ELSE DON’T I KNOW” followed by a list that neighbors described as “extensive.”
According to Emma, he is also still trying to figure out why the dinosaurs are always late.
His wife Jessica texted from work: “He’s about to learn that kids will eat anything if you put it on a stick or call it ‘fun size.’ I’ve been trying to tell him this for years.”
She did not respond to a request for further comment.
