The Lawsuit

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the complaint in Sasgen v. NordVPN S.A., Case №1:25-cv-06822, claims NordVPN used “dark patterns” to lock users into automatically renewing plans without clear consent. The lawsuit alleges that NordVPN buried its renewal terms in small print, charged users up to two weeks before their plans expired, made cancellations intentionally difficult to find, and failed to provide clear renewal notices as required by law.

The plaintiffs seek at least fifty million dollars in relief under Illinois consumer protection statutes and related laws.
