Weekend trips near Manila can get crowded with tourists, but Cavinti, Laguna, offers a different kind of experience. Instead of just taking photos, you can have real adventures like cliff rappelling, visiting hidden waterfalls, and exploring quiet lakes that are not on the usual tourist maps.

Rappel at Pueblo El Salvador Nature Park

At Pueblo El Salvador Nature Park, the trip itself is part of the fun. The park opened in 2007 as a cheaper and more challenging option than the Pagsanjan boat trips. Here, you get to walk through forests, climb steep ladders, and rappel down rock walls before you arrive at the bottom of Cavinti Falls. All the safety gear and guides are provided, but the journey is difficult. The whole trip takes about 3 to 4 hours. The reward for your hard work is getting to swim under the powerful falls and even explore the “Devil’s Cave”. It is also affordable, costing around ₱285 compared to the ₱1,000+ price at Pagsanjan according to a tourism officer.

Find Peace at Naculo Falls

If rappelling isn’t for you, you can visit Naculo Falls, which is also known as Twin Falls. It is a hidden waterfall with several levels, located deep in an untouched forest. The nearby Cliff eco-sanctuary offers private entry to the falls, along with comfortable guesthouses and places for stargazing. Guests cook their own food, which helps keep the resort simple and good for the environment.

Relax at Lake Caliraya

While chasing waterfalls is exciting, Lake Caliraya is the perfect place to relax. You can go kayaking, paddleboarding, or enjoy other water sports depending on the resort you choose. Aquascape offers free kayaks for its guests, and larger resorts like Mountain Lake and The Hamptons have jet skis, parasailing, and more. You can even stay in houses that float on the water for a unique experience on the lake.

Eco-Tourism

Cavinti is serious about protecting its natural beauty. In 2024, a local law created strict rules for trash, the number of people allowed at one time, and total tourist numbers.

How to Get There

From Manila, you can take a Greenstar bus to Sta. Cruz (₱140–₱180, 3 hours). From there, take a jeepney or a habal-habal to Cavinti. A tricycle ride to Pueblo El Salvador will cost about ₱150. Remember to bring water, snacks, comfortable shoes, and an extra set of clothes if you plan on rappelling.

Cavinti is not a place for big crowds or easy travel. It is all about pure adventure and discovering hidden beauty. From the thrill of rappelling at Cavinti Falls to swimming at Naculo Falls and kayaking on Lake Caliraya, Cavinti is a true playground for adventurers.
