In the beginning….

I was an Avon Representative with a retail license and a very expensive kiosk in the Boise Towne Square Mall. The exorbitant cost of 10 x 10 kiosk made it very hard to make a profit. I’m talking rent of $2,000 a month (and $5,000 per month for the entire 3rd quarter). However, the Christmas rush doesn’t actually start until the day after Thanksgiving. So, that is $200-$500 a square foot! I had to sell a whole ton of Skin So Soft to cover that overhead.

I wanted to be able to support myself, make payroll, and have a successful business, but the thing is I was making only a few thousand dollars a month in sales and some months I actually lost money. I felt like I was sliding into a deep hole with 2 years left on a mall lease.

To make things worse, I felt like a complete failure. That’s just the way I’m wired, I guess. Even if negative things happen to affect my business, and are completely out of my control (think Covid 19), I take it SO personal!

I was selling quite a bit of Avon product online through my own website. The problem was that Avon didn’t allow its representatives or licensees to sell online at the time (I was asked by their legal team in NY to shut it down!). So, I deleted the website, which killed the majority of my income.

Then, as if by kismet, something wonderful happened.

A good friend of mine invited me to play in her bunco group. When it was my turn to host bunco, I went to the local party store and tried to find bunco decorations. Nada … Then, I went online in search for décor for my party, and again, nothing. I did some research and found that, in fact there was a demand for bunco supplies online, and little to no competition. In fact, Nabisco conducted a demographic study on Bunco players and found that an estimated 7M women have played Bunco in the US. It became crystal clear that I had a future supporting bunco players and providing bunco party supplies.

I build www.buncogameshop.com and started offering “all things bunco”, and started making money again.

My plan was to create a website offering bunco party planners with information, and all of the bunco supplies necessary to host a fun, stress free, and highly successful bunco event.

Then, call after call came in for information on “how to play”, or where to find a group locally to join the party. That’s when I realized that there are still a huge amount of unsupported bunco players out there.

I was getting pretty frustrated because I didn’t have the resources to connect bunco players together in their own cities. So, that’s when I decided to bring Twilight Bunco Events everywhere.

After creating Twilight Bunco Events, I was not only able to create a forum for players to learn and play locally, I’ve also been able to offer career opportunities for host and hostess entrepreneurs who want to inspire, impact, and make a difference in the life of others.
