Bangladesh Bank Allows Money Transfers Between Banks and Mobile Wallets from November

By making transactions more convenient and less costly, the new rules could encourage more people to use legal, traceable digital channels instead of relying on cash. Bangladesh Bank expects that with this initiative, both banks and MFS operators will be able to work together more efficiently, offering customers safer and faster digital payment services than ever before.

People will soon be able to transfer money easily between their bank accounts and mobile financial service (MFS) wallets like bKash, Nagad and Rocket. Bangladesh Bank has announced that this new system will start on 1 November 2025.

The new rules will allow transfers in three directions — from bank to MFS wallet, from MFS wallet to bank and from one MFS wallet to another. This is expected to make digital transactions easier and faster for millions of users across the country.

New Fees for Digital Money Transfers

The central bank has set specific charges for these transfers. For sending money from bank accounts to MFS wallets, the cost will be BDT 1.5 per BDT 1,000.

If someone sends money from an MFS wallet to a bank account, the fee will be BDT 8.5 per BDT 1,000.

For MFS-to-MFS transfers, the sender will have to pay a fee of up to BDT 8.5 per BDT 1,000, but the receiver will not be charged.

Money transfers from one bank to another will continue with the existing charge of BDT 1.5 per BDT 1,000.

The Bangladesh Bank also mentioned that transfers from banks to Payment Service Providers (PSPs) will cost BDT 2 per BDT 1,000.

These are maximum fees, meaning banks or MFS operators can charge lower fees if they choose. The new structure is designed to make transactions more affordable while maintaining service quality.
