Gonka governance approves devshard v2, enabling runtime upgrades without a mainnet restart

The first devshard-only release can run alongside the existing v1 environment without a full-chain software upgrade.

Gonka, a decentralized AI inference network, has completed on-chain approval for devshard v2 — its first devshard-only runtime upgrade.

The governance proposal added v2 to DevshardEscrowParams.approved_versions. This enables the new devshard runtime to run in parallel with the existing v1 environment. This type of upgrade does not require a mainnet restart, a full-chain software upgrade or manual host steps as part of the rollout.

This gives Gonka a more modular way to evolve its decentralized inference infrastructure. New devshard runtime versions can be introduced alongside the existing production environment while existing v1 traffic continues to be served.

The devshard v2 release also improves resource management for long-running inference sessions. Completed inference payloads and outdated epoch data are pruned more actively, helping prevent unnecessary memory and state growth after requests are completed.

For node operators and developers, the update expands observability across the devshard stack. New tracing, metrics and monitoring tools provide better visibility into inference sessions, latency, storage behaviour, containers and node health.

The release also extends governance-controlled configuration to include session timeouts, fees, validation rates, vote-threshold factors and grace periods. This reduces reliance on hardcoded settings and makes future runtime changes more transparent at the network level.

What this means for Gonka

  • More modular upgrades: once approved, new devshard runtime versions can be introduced alongside existing infrastructure without requiring a coordinated mainnet restart.
  • Expanded operational visibility: new tracing, metrics and monitoring tools give operators and developers clearer insight into inference sessions, node health and runtime behaviour.
  • More transparent runtime governance: key operational parameters, including fees, session timeouts and validation settings, are moving from hardcoded values into governance-controlled configuration.

Devshard v2 establishes a more modular and flexible upgrade path for Gonka’s decentralized AI inference infrastructure.
