Diagrammatic Reframing of the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque

In the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, the figure of the domed chamber is formed through the repetition of the bazaar’s two-part division pattern. Segmentation, exception, and recession within the bazaar give rise to the Shekam-Darideh pattern, evoking the spatial character of the Shah-Neshin. Upon entering the building, it is through the skillful integration of the Chalipa and Hashti patterns within the transitional space that the originality of the mosque’s spatial organization is revealed.
