She walked with grace through storms...
A dirge for Oluwakemi Omolabake Onabanjo
A Dirge for Yeye Debby
(a beginner’s attempt at poetry😅)
She walked with grace through storms,
A quiet light in days of rain.
Her hands, though weary, never ceased;
A heart so full, so strong, so brave.
She wore a smile to mask her pain,
Sat alone with silent strain;
Still, she rose to lift us high—
A mother’s love that touched the sky.
She was the pillar, firm and true;
The thread that held our scattered crew.
In bulk she bought, always looking for the best deals;
She planned ahead, she thought with care;
Preparing for the unexpected through hard work & prayer.
Her home was a haven.
When hunger knocked, she opened wide, with warmth;
Her meals served with joy.
No one prepared ọ̀fadà like Silverpot.
Her laughter danced like morning light,
Soft and warm, a pure delight.
Ówànbẹ̀s were fun with her in attendance;
She ensures each guest is well catered for- àjẹyó, àjẹdìlọlé.
She once made me a Micky mouse cake— With Tom-Tom eyes.
And though she laughed, she kept us straight—
A hot cooking fork once corrected my erring head.
‘Orí ẹ ò ṣiṣé’ she would say.
Silence now sings where smiles once stayed;
Her voice, her steps in memories laid.
A soul so strong, yet gently tuned.
Now heaven holds your soul in grace,
a resting place in perfect peace.
No pain, no tears, no earthly strife;
Just joy eternal, endless life.
Your light lives on in all you gave;
a gift that kept giving.
A flame no time or tide can wave.
yours,
T.O.M.M.
