1:00 PM — Arrive at Shimokitazawa Station

There is no need to arrive especially early.

Shimokitazawa works well as an afternoon destination, so you could spend your morning sightseeing somewhere else in Tokyo and head here after lunch.

Shimokitazawa Station is served by the Odakyu Line and Keio Inokashira Line.

For a first visit, you do not need a detailed minute-by-minute route.

A simple plan is enough:

Station → Vintage Shops → Café → Records & Local Shops → Dinner → Bar

Then leave some space for places you discover along the way.

A convenient place to begin is Mikan Shimokita, a development close to the station with restaurants and shops.

You do not need to spend a long time there — it simply works well as an easy starting point before heading deeper into the neighborhood.

1:30 PM — Start Vintage Shopping

Vintage shopping is one of the main reasons many people visit Shimokitazawa.

Walk a few minutes from the station and you will quickly start seeing racks of secondhand clothing outside stores.

My suggestion is simple:

Do not plan every shop in advance.

One of the pleasures of Shimokitazawa is noticing a store that looks interesting and stepping inside.

Still, if this is your first visit, having two or three shops in mind can make it easier to get started.

It is located inside reload, which also fits naturally into the walking route later in the afternoon.

This is a good option for travelers who want to spend some time exploring coffee rather than simply stopping somewhere for a quick drink.

COFFEE COUNTY Tokyo

Another option is COFFEE COUNTY Tokyo.

This is a good choice if you enjoy specialty coffee and want a quieter pause between shopping and exploring.

Taking 30 minutes to slow down can make the rest of the afternoon much more enjoyable.

KISSA RAY

For a smaller local café atmosphere, take a look at KISSA RAY.

It offers a different feeling from larger cafés and fits well with the neighborhood’s small-shop culture.

A simple combination of:

Vintage shopping → Small café → More walking

is one of the easiest ways to enjoy Shimokitazawa.

After your coffee break, continue walking.

This time, instead of focusing only on clothing, look for records, books, small shops, and anything else that catches your attention.

Two places that fit naturally into this part of the afternoon are reload and BONUS TRACK.

reload is a collection of smaller shops and food businesses that feels connected to the surrounding streets.

Rather than feeling like a conventional shopping mall, it works nicely as part of a neighborhood walk.

You can stop briefly or take your time depending on what interests you.

BONUS TRACK

From there, consider walking to BONUS TRACK.

The area includes shops and restaurants and sometimes hosts events, markets, pop-ups, and other activities.

Because event schedules change, check the official website before your visit if you are hoping to catch something specific.

This part of the afternoon is also a good reminder that the walk itself is part of the experience.

Instead of always taking the shortest route on Google Maps, try turning down a side street once in a while.

You may find a shop you had not planned to visit.

6:00 PM — Dinner in Shimokitazawa

By early evening, you will probably be ready for dinner.

But Shimokitazawa rewards a different style of travel.

You planned to visit three vintage shops and ended up visiting eight.
