My thoughts on generative AI

AI has gotten to be such a big topic lately, and I think it has so much potential — if it wasn't so horrible for the environment.

AI could do so much to assist people, however, we have survived without it, and it's not a necessity. Don't get me wrong, I have used generative AI before, but that was when I wasn't aware of the impact it had on our environment. I have used chatbots for stupid questions like “how often should I water succulents” or “does the guy I like feel the same?” but there are other ways to expand our knowledge.

My best friend uses AI to help her with school, her first language isn't English, which makes it difficult for her to understand the work. She doesn't ask AI to write her essays for her, but to explain the questions and help her create an outline with her research. I think for some people, AI is a wonderful tool and has so much potential to support people globally, but with the way AI is being used, it's doing mostly harm.

AI has become a tool that allows predators to create CP using photos of children online, it has become a tool to create false information in politics or in any form of media, it has become a tool that people go to for mental health and has litteraly told young children to off themselves instead of seeking proffesional help. AI is too accessable for bad things, you cant prevent terrible things in the world but you can limit them. AI has such a negative affect on lives and futures. Not only does it waste water, energy, and create poverty, but it also makes life harder for many people when its job was to make things easier.
