Multiple VM Clusters on Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure

Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D) now offers the capability to create multiple VM clusters on a single Exadata Infrastructure, Till Dec 2022, ExaDB-D customers were limited to creating a single VM cluster that automatically spanned across all DB Servers in the infrastructure. However, with the introduction of Multiple VM Clusters (Multi-VM) support, customers now have increased flexibility and control over their VM cluster deployments on ExaDB-D.

Previously we need to have separate Exadata Infrastructure to place an ExaCS or Autonomous Database but now we can have the option to host both Autonomous Database and ExaCS on the same Exadata Infrastructure

For example in the above picture

1. Customer-managed ExaCS (Rack 01, Rack 02)
2. Oracle-managed Autonomous Database (Rack 03, Rack 04)

which can be consolidated on a New Exadata infrastructure with support for Multiple VM Clusters

on Quarter Rack Exadata Infrastructure you can have up to 4 VM clusters & 8 VM clusters on Half & Full rack refer datasheet

Each VM Cluster will have

1. Dedicated resource (OCPU, Memory, Local Storage, Database storage)
2. Option to select a sparse disk group / Local backup to selective VM Cluster(s)
3. Dedicated Network segment so that we can still maintain the isolation between Production and Non-Production workloads
4. The licensing policy is dedicated to the VM cluster and enables customers to host BYOL and License Included model on the same Exadata Infra
5. ASM is dedicated to each Cluster
6. Capability to configure Dataguard between VM Clusters in the same Infrastructure

Customers who are running their Production on ExaCS & Non-Prod on DBCS have the option to consolidate all on the same Infra
