Suddenly, My Medium Explodes

How I grow this little account beyond 1.000 followers and three digit earnings

It felt like I have worked five years to finally see... an overnight success?

Yup, that’s how it felt.

However, what happened to my Medium is just a chain reaction. A chain reaction to publishing content on the internet — boringly consistent.

Boom!

Few days ago, I crossed 1.000 followers. Since then, the number keeps rising as sharply as never before. Hi there! ☺️

It was no coincidence that this happened after I published my first article that made over 1.000 Dollars so far.

That article went viral.

And suddenly, the stupid little propaganda of successful creators on the internet feels legit:

“Anyone can do it”.

A Logical Work Result?

I see that milestone as the peak of an ice berg. The ‘sudden’ boost to my medium account isn’t isolated from all the work I have done before.

On the opposite.

It is the result. And it wouldn’t have been possible without writing ~200 articles that didn’t go viral.

Maybe it’s a universal rule to online creation that the first few times, weeks, — or, in my case, years!— the results feel ridiculous in relation to the work.

How Exponential Growth Works

Exponential growth still feels ridiculous in the beginning. It is simply hard for human minds to imagine.

Let’s say I had two followers to start with. So exponential growth means having 4 the next month (2²), 8 (4²)the next, 64 the next, … you got me.

And it still sounds small, right?

But for the next month, assuming 64² again, we land at 4.096.

Not so small anymore, huh?

At some point, the equation will shift.

Then, the work for creating content will feel ridiculous in relation to the results. Not the other way around.

If it’s for you like it is for me, growth will not be a clear exponential paragraph. But growth will become exponentially easier over time — also, because you improve.

How I Started Medium

Since 2021, I have built the foundation for that. In 2021, I published my first article on why I quit journalism.

The article read so. painfully. mediocre.

Anyone finding it may think:

“Good she didn’t make writing her profession.”

But here I am.

I kept going, without a work contract at a publishing house behind me.

5 years later, I really feel that I have built something for the first time.

This May, I earned a decent amount of money for the first time.

And I really feel comfortable writing.

Boring Beats… Everything

The key to most things on earth is the same: Consistency. Boring as fuck. But I know it works.

The extraordinary people just do the very ordinary stuff most people refuse to. Over and over again. I guess that’s the best definition I found myself for consistency.

I will keep doing this. And hopefully, I’ll keep growing — my audience, my skills, and my love for writing.
