Since everyone who’s anyone in the film photography community, seems to shoot Kodak Portra religiously, I decided to give a try.
I have to admit, I hadn’t tried it before because it’s so hyped, which automatically translated in my head as…overhyped? But at the end of the day, the influencers won and I bought a roll of Portra 400.
It being about €10 a roll, I almost felt scared to load it into my camera without some sort of research. I like spending too much time on things like this, read blog posts, watch videos, etc. But this time, the more research I did, the less excited I became. It made me think of this article, discussing the elitism in the film photography community.
That’s not what shooting film is about for me, I like the simplicity of it, compose, focus, shoot and hope for the best!
So that’s what I did, grabbed my Olympus Trip 35, loaded the film, rated it at 200 and had fun.
