Teddy
The sky was fiery orange as the sun was setting behind the mountains. There was a stray brown dog, and he was wandering around the streets looking for something to eat. He found a piece of meat and was glad he finally found something to eat. The dog lost his owner in a car accident a few months ago and had nowhere to go as no one would adopt him. His fur was brown like chocolate, his face was full of dirt. His eyes were full of sorrow and misery. After he ate the piece of meat, he realized he was near a butcher. When he looked through the window for more meat, the butcher saw him and offered him some meat. The dog happily ate the meat. It was the first time someone offered him something to eat in a long time. The butcher felt sad about the dog looking so exhausted and dirty. The butcher looked around to see if he had an owner, but no one came running for him. Tiny droplets of tears fell from his eyes as he looked into the dog’s eyes full of sorrow and misery, it was as if he knew what he had been through. He thought how his children would be so happy to have a pet dog and decided to take the dog in, heal his wounds, and his broken heart. The dog felt hope and peace as the butcher picked him up and brought him inside the store. The butcher filled a bucket of soft warm water and gently scrubbed the dog’s fur. He scrubbed his fur as if he was a fragile little kitten. Layers of buildup dirt got scrubbed off, and it put the dog at ease. After the butcher was done washing the dog, the dog was happy he was finally clean. The sky was dark as the moon was shining around the stars; it was nighttime. The butcher took the dog in his arms and put him in the back of the car. He began driving home after a tiring day of work. While he was driving, he was thinking about how happy his children would be to meet this beautiful brown dog. Before he knew it, they had finally arrived home.
The butcher took a deep breath and carried the dog into his home. The butcher had three small sons, Jack, Issac, and Joseph. His sons immediately ran to their dad and greeted him. They all said full of happiness, “Hello dad! You are finally home! We missed you!” Then the butcher said “I missed you all too my sons! I brought a tittle friend home with me for you guys!” The butcher showed them the dog, Jacob, Isaac, and Joseph said with a burst of excitement, “Thank you dad! We always wanted a dog. “He looks beautiful!” Then Jacob said, “let’s name him Teddy because of his beautiful brown fur. He reminds me of my teddy bear.” They all agreed. Teddy’s eyes were full of joy and excitement as he waged his tail. He had finally found a loving owner and his heart grew warmer and warmer. He finally found a new home. Issac made a soft bed for Teddy. The bed was so soft that it felt like Teddy was sinking into a cloud of comfort, like a gentle hug. This feeling was a feeling he never felt before, and was grateful he had such loving owner. Teddy rested peacefully that night and for the first time in 6 months he finally found a place where he belonged; The sky was a soft pink color as the sun was rising above the mountains; it was finally morning. A soft ray of sunlight shone on Teddy’s face, and he woke up peacefully. The butcher’s wife was making breakfast, and the aroma of the pancakes filled the house with a smell of caramel-like sweetness. Teddy went downstairs to find out where this wonderful smell was coming from, and as he got closer to the smell, he frightened the butcher’s wife. She said, “Oh hey! You scared me! You must be Teddy and how beautiful you are!” She gave Teddy some leftover steak she made last night. The meat was so tender and soft that it melted in Teddy’s mouth. From that morning, Teddy promised himself he would protect this family at all costs from any danger. Teddy patiently waited for them to finish eating. Jacob, Issac, and Joseph went outside to play with Teddy. Teddy had never had this much fun in his life, and enjoyed every second of it.
A year has passed now, and Teddy is about 8 years old. Teddy enjoyed every moment he had with his owners, and Teddy grew very close with them. Teddy’s eyes were no longer full of sorrow and misery, but they were full of joy and peace. His heart was not cold and broken anymore, but it had, healed, because he someone to love. Teddy’s fur was very clean and had been clean ever since he met the butcher except from when Teddy and the boys went outside and jumped on muddy puddles from the rain.
One day, the sky was cloudy and it looked like it was about to rain. The sun was nowhere to be seen. The boys and Teddy were playing football outside, waiting for the rain so they could jump; on the puddles. Jacob accidentally kicked the ball into the street. When he went to go get the ball, he froze when he saw a car rushing straight at him like a fast train. He thought his life was over. At that moment Teddy remembered the promise he made to protect his family at all costs, so he rushed to help Jacob. With every leap he took towards Jacob, his heart was pumping rapidly. He remembered all the fun moments Teddy had with his family, such as the first time he met the butcher and his family to the last time he was playing with Jacob, Issac, and Joseph. He remembered all the silly and sweet memories he had with them. The car was a few feet away and Jacob was certain to be hit; Teddy with incredible speed jumped high into the air, almost like he was flying, and pushed Jacob with incredible force before the car hit him. At that moment, the sky began to rain heavily, and Teddy saw his life flash before his eyes. He kept replaying the fun and sweet memories he had with his family as he was lying by the side of the road with blood gushing from his mouth. Teddy was relieved he at least saved his owner this time and fulfilled the promise he made to them. Teddy’s eyes were full of joyful tears as he closed his beautiful eyes.
Teddy’s mind was still alert for about a few minutes, and he heard Joseph, Issac, the butcher, and the butcher’s wife crying “Teddy! Come back! Just one more minute!” Jacob, still in shock from what happened, remembered it was Teddy who saved his life! He rushed towards Teddy and realized Teddy was gone but didn’t know that he could still hear them for a few minutes before he truly died. Jacob, with tears streaming from his face and a heavy heart said, “Thank you, Teddy.” These were the last words Teddy heard before he left this world. He was glad that he saved his owner this time, unlike the other time his owner crashed the car and couldn’t do anything. Teddy was also glad he fulfilled a promise to himself, one that he would never regret.
