VP Debate -The Elephant in the Room
Americans were treated Tuesday night to a relatively civil, drama-free debate between the Vice Presidential candidates- JD Vance and Tim Walz. A few jabs here and there interspersed with expressions of empathy and other human-like behaviors. But what eerily undergirded the whole debate was the perverse and obscene depravity that characterizes the Trump-Vance ticket. It was as if the U.S. and North Korea were politely discussing trade policy while Kim Jon Un was executing civilians in the room next door. And everyone knew it. In a sane scenario, the very notion that we would discuss trade or anything else with a murderous dictator is absurd on its face. So too with Walz talking to Vance about immigration policy or the economy, None of it matters and it’s preposterous that this seemingly civil discourse was given oxygen. Unfortunately, we Americans don’t have the luxury of choosing a candidate based on policy considerations. Or even things as fundamental as the role of government. You see, a vote for Trump this year could mean your vote won’t count in the next election. So what do differing views on, say, foreign policy really mean if the nation is run by a criminal dictator and our votes are no longer legitimate in another four years? The positions put forth in the VP debate were chillingly irrelevant. Vote for Harris-Walz so your vote will count come 2028.
