First day at Deloitte

Feels pretty surreal writing this. On 28th November 2024, I went back home from my deloitte interview, confidence shattered and absolutely heartbroken. To be fair, I had completely bombed that interview by messing up basic journal entries like PURCHASE OF MACHINERY. But still, I wanted it so bad and I could almost taste it so it stung real hard. I went home in the auto in tears. Cut to almost 1.5 years later, converted the same internship this time as a 4th year. Took a while, but I made it eventually. Goes to show the right things will come to you at the right time and what’s meant to be yours will make it to you eventually. I feel like I manifested this in some way as well. The whole summer I didn’t apply for any other internships because I had applied here and just knew this would be the perfect opportunity. I prepared really hard and KILLED the interview this time. The interviewer called me a superstar and I think they were genuinely impressed by how much knowledge I had of accounting hehe, especially stuff like violating going concern assumption.

Anyways, today was the first day and I walked into those doors with a smile on my face and a sense of pride. Big 4 internship and through college phew. God is good, not just good AMAZING. The day turned out to be more hectic than I would’ve imagined though. I was the first one to arrive (45 mins ahead of time because of appa btw), collected my laptop and temporary id and went and belted the breakfast buffet (realised later it was for full time hires and not me, but hey they guided me there). Came down and there was so much confusion and mishap because one person said I could go home and there was no events scheduled but another told us to wait. Finally, we were guided up to the meeting room. 7 of us and 2 members of different audit teams. It started with attending a call on MFA setup and then we moved to icebreakers, intros, 2 truths 1 lie (ofc), our expectations from this internship, their expectations from us and having to present all this. Then came the technical heavy stuff, intro to audit, different engagements, structure of teams, tools and softwares used by the company, a BUNCH of new jargon and blah blah blah. We got about 4 breaks within that 8 hour period- one coffee, one lunch, one evening snacks and one last quick break. They pre-ordered packed boxes for us which was pretty cool. I was also on my second day of period and no extra pad so it was a BLOODY POOL down there. The day finally ended and we booked our autos and left home. Although hectic, it was pretty satisfying because in my last internship, they didnt bother taking the time of day to train me and stuff. I just did random extra work they literally had to dig for me, so this level of structure and care feels especially good. I am also proud of myself for not sleeping between the long lectures, my body cooperated somehow without my afternoon powernap hahha. Apparently tomorrow and day after are gonna be even longer days but im still looking forward to it because at the end of it is HYDERABAD for 3 days lesgoooo.
