[48] It sticks

As usual, I like to do small projects during the summer for a single reason.

It’s too hot on my balcony to do any outdoor job. It’s also too hot in my apartment to use the 3D printer (even though have a bucket full of ideas). It’s also too hot for my brain to be fully functional.

I think you get the point, it’s too hot. But I digress.

In today’s story, I’ll use an isometric grid to create a 3D version of my logo and make stickers. Usually, I don’t intend to showcase my tiny projects. I’ve found this one visually interesting, so I decided to share it with you.

The original plan was:

• To draw a fully working isometric grid
• To draw a single cube
• To draw the 67 logo with this cube (as if it were Lego cubes)
• To add some colors to it

The result was good, but not so easy to read. So I tried a few things: Using shadows to give a better understanding of depth Changing the colors Playing with the grid so it looks like it’s standing up

But none of those worked as expected. It turned out the solution was to remove the frame.

Once happy with the shape, I’ve decided to go backward a little.

I experimented with different shapes, colors, and even shadows to see if I could find a better version. In the end, I kept the original version and made some refinements.

I thought for a long time about whether to keep the monochrome version. But I wanted something colorful.

The next step was to prepare the file for the printer.

It’s an expensive process, so I ensured my file was perfect. It mainly means the following:

• Using printable colors (hello, CMYK)
• Removing any unwanted shapes or anchor points
• Merging the shapes to avoid any weird overlapping
• Exporting it in the proper file format (hello, vector shape encapsulated in a PDF)

I was so anxious when I received my envelope. After all, so many things could have gone wrong.

But the result is perfect (at least to my eyes). The shiny coat was expensive, but it was worth it. It adds so much coolness to the sticker!
