Book Review: Supernova

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

This is my favorite book in the series.

It was heartbreaking, intense, and had almost everything I crave in an action book.

My main critique though, is that I was disappointed how Nova and Adrian’s alter egos are revealed because I desperately wished they learned each other true identities in battle. I will also say that I wished that their fight scene, when Nova is trying to give Ace the helmet, was longer.

On a more positive note, I did not expect Winston Pratt to become one of my favorite characters. At first, he is just seemed like some insignificant rip-off of the Joker, but his character shows that there is always more to someone than what meets the eye. After he reveals that he was molested as a child, I was both disgusted and heartbroken that such a thing happened to him. I also loved that he genuinely cared about Nova and sacrificed his life for her, even when she threw him out of his own air balloon in the first book.

Though I was disappointed that Queen Bee betrayed Nova, I was also glad that Leroy supported Nova and didn’t try to stop her from defeating Ace. I also loved that in the epilogue, he disguised himself just to watch Nova during the parade.

Also, the plot twists in this book were insane. I was also not expecting that Ace was the one who killed Nova’s family and that Adrian was the one who created Phobia, who killed his mother.

I usually hate the trope where someone “permanently” loses their powers only to gain it back at the very end. However, I thought Meyer used this trope uniquely by using Max to sacrifice his own power, turning everyone in Galton into a prodigy.

In the epilogue, I was so shocked when it was revealed the Magpie is Nova’s little sister and Meyer did a fantastic job foreshadowing this twist earlier without giving it away. Overall, this book was amazing and I hope there is a spin-off that takes place at least five years later with Max and Magpie as the protagonists.
