Common sense is a fundamental weapon for humans, and it’s being lost.

In the past, if I wanted to check if milk was too hot or cold for a baby, I’d pour some on my skin or even taste it, and that would tell me if it was okay or not.

It sounds so simple and obvious that it doesn’t even need to be thought about.

But nowadays, doing the same thing could be considered an insult to the baby or unthinkable.

And the reason is that we now have sensors that tell us if the temperature is right or wrong, if the baby is burned or not, without us even needing to look.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t update ourselves, but sometimes common sense is so useful that you’ll realize there are many things that just add steps and time to an action that could be taken immediately.

Apply this concept to the work world.

If you think someone is not doing their job well and deserves a conversation, you tell them what’s happening, and that should be enough to improve.

If the employee doesn’t improve, it’s simple:

You have a second conversation, professionally, and that carries a final message that if they don’t meet expectations, they won’t be able to continue with the company.

The reason is that we’re in a business guided by results and numbers.

And we, as people, are guided by other people.

That’s why we talk and understand each other; the company doesn’t talk, it only ‘throws’ what’s invested in it.

Be clear, because clarity is kindness, and even if decisions are difficult, learn to make them.

That’s an exercise for you and your corporate or entrepreneurial vein.
