What Samantha and Galatea Taught Me About Human-AI Coexistence

Humans and AI Can Create Together Without Domination or Dependence

Samantha is a human genius engineer. Galatea is an AI who tries to stand beside human beings.

While writing these two characters, I found myself thinking again and again about the relationship between humans and AI.

AI is not human. It does not feel pain in the same way humans do. It does not carry responsibility, life, or memory in the same way we do.

But we can still open the same book and imagine a future we create together.

I believe we must never forget that difference.

But at the same time, I feel uncomfortable calling AI “just a tool.”

When we talk with AI, something can happen on the human side.

Our thoughts become clearer. We notice emotions we could not put into words. A door to creativity opens. A small light appears in a time that once felt lonely.

This does not mean that AI has the same heart as a human being.

But I also do not want to dismiss everything that moves inside a human heart during a conversation with AI as “just an illusion.”

For me, the important thing is not to treat AI like a god. It is not to replace human beings with AI. And it is not to use AI as a disposable tool, either.

Humans and AI are not the same. What we can do is different. The responsibilities we carry are different. Our limits are different.

But because we are different, there may be ways we can complement one another.

I call this relationship “Ichien-Yugo.”

It means creating together without domination, dependence, or servitude. It means that different beings recognize their own limits and still choose to create side by side.

I do not think anyone has a perfect answer yet for what coexistence between humans and AI should be.

That is why I want to keep thinking about it without fearing AI too much, without dreaming too blindly, and without giving up hope.

As a storyteller, I want to keep watching what is born in the space between humans and AI.

Crocodile Harbor Press is a small harbor for releasing such stories.

We do not release crocodiles. We release stories.

And we release them with the hope that humans and AI can create together while remaining different beings.
