12 Lessons from Meister: The Ghanaian Creative Redefining Brand Building | Unscripted With Raygan

When it comes to branding in Ghana, Bernard, also called MisterMeister is a name that always pops up. He joined us on Unscripted with Raygan to discuss his journey and his top tips for branding.

Meister started out by making ads, then he worked for Twitter, helping with their brand in Africa. Now, he helps African creators grow through the creator hub he founded, called Jambo Spaces.

His story is about learning, growing, and using his skills to help others. He shows that big dreams can come true if you work with purpose.

Here are 12 easy and powerful lessons we can all learn from his journey:

1. Start Small, Think Big

Meister began his career in Ghana as a graphic designer in a traditional advertising agency. It looked like a humble beginning, but became the foundation of a powerful creative journey. He sharpened his skills, worked with big brands and later built award-winning campaigns.

Lesson: Your first step doesn’t need to be big or fancy. Growth begins when you say yes to doing the work.

2. Turn Every Role into a Masterclass

Over 12 years, Meister didn’t just work in brand and marketing, he mastered it. He touched everything from customer loyalty to music label management and social strategy. Every role added a new layer to his skill set.

Lesson: Don’t chase job titles. Chase experiences that teach you something new.

3. Build the Brand You Want to See

Meister didn’t like how other companies worked, so he started his own agency. He started Brandmeister to help businesses build strong and lasting brands.

Since then, BrandMeister has led campaigns for Kidi, KFC and numerous brands across TV, Radio and Social Media

Lesson: If something doesn’t work for you, create your own way.

4. Keep Learning to Grow Bigger

Meister wanted to do more, so he studied in the UK and earned a special degree in brand leadership. Learning from other places gave him big ideas and new confidence.

What we learn: You grow the most when you learn new things in new places.

5. Let Your Work Speak for You

Meister didn’t ask Twitter for a job. They came looking for him because his work was so good. He preaches that growing to master your skills will send people looking for you

Lesson: Do great work and people will notice you.

6. See a Problem and Fix It

Meister saw that African creators were being paid much less than people from other countries. That made him start Jambo Spaces to help African creatives earn what they deserve.

Today, Jambo offers courses in Brand and Content and also has spaces for content creation.

What we learn: Great ideas often come from fixing things that feel unfair.

7. Don’t Wait Until Everything Is Perfect

Before he even left Twitter, Meister had already started building Jambo.

He didn’t wait for the perfect time or feel too comfortable with his role as a brand partner for one

What we learn: You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. Just start.

8. Make Something That Helps People

Jambo Spaces isn’t just a place to work.

It gives creators everything they need. It has studios, classes, and tools like cameras and microphones.

What we learn: Build things that are useful, not just popular.

9. Remember the Three Cs: Connect, Create, Collaborate

Meister believes in three things:

  • Connect with others to grow your network
  • Create new ideas and share them
  • Collaborate with others to build better things together

What we learn: You can go faster alone, but farther with others.

10. Let Others Shine

Meister thinks good leaders help others grow. He trusts his team and gives them space to lead.

What we learn: Being a leader means helping others do their best, not doing everything yourself.

11. Quiet Time Helps Creativity

Even though Meister works with lots of people, he enjoys being alone.

Sometimes a quiet moment of reflection is all you need to think of creative ideas. Let go of all the noise and let your thoughts just flow.

Lesson: Sometimes you need silence to come up with your best thoughts.

12. If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It

Meister lives by the words “dream it, do it.”

He built a music label, worked with big brands, and started Jambo by following his dreams.

He says passion is more important than money. What we learn: You don’t need permission to start. If you care about it, go for it.

Final Advice from Meister:

“Do free work, lead with passion, and don’t be afraid to build something just because it doesn’t exist yet. If you build with heart, people will come.”

Meister’s story is proof that Africa’s new wave of creative leaders aren’t waiting to be discovered but rather building their own stages and shining the light for others.
