A Gentle Invitation for a silent retreat, inspired by two great leaders of love

On Love, Silence, and Healing

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we remember a man who taught that love is not sentiment, but a disciplined choice — one that seeks healing even in the face of suffering.

Dr. King once wrote:

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”

Centuries earlier, St. Francis of Assisi lived this same truth — not through speeches, but through silence, humility, and presence. He prayed:

“Where there is hatred, let me sow love.”

Neither believed love was passive.

Both knew it required inner formation —

space to listen, to be purified, to return to the world with courage.

In our own time, many of us carry quiet burdens:

• exhaustion from caring for others

• stress stored in the body

• unspoken grief, inherited or lived

• a longing to serve without losing ourselves

This is why I am offering a Silent Retreat & Pilgrimage in Assisi, Italy (March 18 — 22, 2026) —

a space to step away from noise and urgency,

to rest in sacred silence,

and to allow love to do its quiet work of healing.

This retreat is not about fixing yourself.

It is about listening.

It is about letting silence restore what constant striving has worn thin.

The retreat coincides with a group veneration of relics of St Francis, once in a lifetime opportunity open to public in 800 years. As someone who experienced healing in decades-old wound from my childhood, I can attest to the power of sacred places, silence, and community.
