Attempting A Real World Scenario
I started my first space in ShapesXR thinking I would focus on a cute little James Bond inspired project, BUT a real world scenario came up so I want to see what could unfold if I work on it.
The idea came up casually.
I was standing next to my best friend as we both attempted to get our phones to read the QR code so we could pay for parking in a garage. As if talking to myself out loud (I do that sometimes), “You know what would be cool? If you could see where you parked. If they could send you a reminder when your parking time is about to expire. Where you parked the car.” Immediately I started visualizing how it would look, which led to me wondering how it would or could actually work.
Pain Points
The first step that came to mind, is to determine the problem based on pain points.
- Poor Data Connection: Inconsistent data connectivity in the parking garage makes it challenging to complete payments on-site.
- Remembering Parking Space Number: Users often struggle to remember their parking space number after leaving the car, which can lead to confusion especially when trying to pay in areas with better data connectivity.
- Complex Payment Process: The payment process involves too many steps, making it cumbersome for users.
- Locating Parked Car: Forgetting the exact location of the parked car in the garage can lead to frustration when trying to return.
- Unnecessary App Installation: Needing to install an app just to pay for a one-time parking spot feels inconvenient and excessive.
Reframing the problem
Design Problem Statement: Design a user-friendly parking garage payment experience that simplifies the process of remembering parking locations and enhances overall convenience for users.

Have you encountered any annoyances with pay-by-QR-code parking garages that I may have missed? Please share your experiences in the comments — I’d love to hear from you!
