Honourable Use
28th MARCH 2023

Christ for Youth International
Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. [2 Timothy 2:20–22 ESV]
In every sense of the word, glory, exists alongside holiness. Anything (or person) who is completely dedicated to a function, separate, and distinct in purpose, will always exude glory. This is highlighted in our opening verse for today. We become vessels of honour when we ’separate’ ourselves (live in holiness) in useful service for the Master’s purposes. Responding to God’s call to walk in holiness leads to wonderful things. A holy calling is a glorious calling!
The weight of God’s glory is accentuated by His holiness. Similarly, when we, His children, live for Him, His glory shines through us. Our highest calling is to remain true to God’s purpose and to walk in holiness. This not only puts us on the path to greatness, but it also brings great glory and honour to God.
The Apostle Paul urged his protégé Timothy to avoid youthful passions because vices frequently divert us from God’s plans and purposes. Losing sight of our call to holiness and purposeful living is detrimental to both our personal lives and God’s kingdom. A holy life protects us from avoidable traumatic experiences that many young people face as a result of careless living that dishonours God.
Why settle for being clay or wood in a great house of many vessels when you can be a precious metal vessel like gold or silver? Paul encourages us to pursue righteousness, faith, hope, and love in community with other believers. We will collectively bring glory to God and expand His Kingdom agenda through mutual encouragement and accountability as we spur each other on to live purposefully and in holiness. Walking in glorious things is a given when we bring glory to God by walking in holiness!
Dear God, thank You for reminding me to live set apart for You. Please empower us to live in holiness by Your Spirit. Thank You that as I walk purposefully and in holiness, the beauty of Your glory is made manifest in my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
