Impact reliever Evan Phillips returns to the Dodgers on a one-year deal

The Dodgers have brought back one of the most effective members of their bullpen this decade.
Evan Phillips, who was non-tendered by the Dodgers after the 2025 season, re-signed with the club on Wednesday for one year. Phillips, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May, is expected back later in the 2026 season.
To clear a 40-man roster spot, the Dodgers designated catcher Ben Rortvedt — who they claimed on Friday — for assignment.
Phillips, with his continued recovery from Tommy John surgery, is a candidate to begin the 2026 season on the 60-day injured list. If he lands on the 60-day injured list, it would open up a 40-man roster spot for the Dodgers.
The 31-year-old right-hander appeared in seven games in 2025 for the Dodgers and didn’t allow a run in 5 2/3 innings. In five seasons with the Dodgers, Phillips has a 2.22 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 4.3 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 45 saves. He ranks fourth in ERA and fifth in WHIP among qualified relievers since 2021.
He has a 0.00 ERA in 12 career postseason appearances.
