Later, students will become friends and get to know even more about each other. We cannot and should not stop that. Uniforms may hide one difference, but they do not erase the deeper reasons why students judge or mistreat each other.

In contrast, having a dress code can improve the school environment without forcing every student to look the same. A dress code can still set clear limits on what is appropriate for school, but it also gives students room to make choices. Instead of trying to simplify students’ lives too much, schools should prepare them for real life.
