SOUL AI: Not What I Expected

This is my experience with SOUL AI. It has been two months, so isn’t it a short time to give a review? Yes, but I’m not expecting anything beyond what I have now. If you’re considering trying it and feeling confused, read this to know what to expect.

In my freelance journey, I’ve explored various platforms. After extensive research on LinkedIn, I discovered **SOUL AI**, which had numerous job listings for prompt engineers and writers.

Let me tell you, their marketing is incredibly powerful. Just by searching for their name, you can see students posting about how good their workshops are.

I encountered many posts about SOUL AI workshops, which gave me hope. After applying, I received an email inviting me to create an account and take a test focused on prompt writing and grammar. After passing, I was informed that I could apply for available projects.

**Note: **You can only log in through Google. If you’re not comfortable with this, you can leave at this point.

Friend’s Experience

One of my friends has already passed the interviews and received project access called “Dolphin.” But, she was unable to set up her account in Outlier due to some issues. She tried contacting support but is still waiting for their reply.

Okay, but I need to experience this for myself, you know? What if my experience is different from hers? Why not give it a try!

Getting Started…

Once I accessed their dashboard, I noticed several projects and began expressing my interest in all of them, including a workshop on prompt techniques.

A few days later, I was selected for a two-day workshop. It covered different types of prompts, including “chain of thought” and “tree of thought.”

First Project

After the workshop, I got my first project.

The catch? I had to complete tasks without pay, and the main requirement was to install a Chrome extension that would monitor my work and mouse movements.

Okay, I wasn’t happy with that, so I waited for my second project while remaining active on Slack, where I saw other participants expressing frustrations about not receiving a single update from the team.

Second Project

Then came my second project, which included a one-hour training session on evaluating responses based on various criteria.

Again, the requirement for the Chrome extension was there, and once more, I opted out.

Complaints continued from others who had completed several prompts without any updates.

Third Project Issues

At last, I was happy to receive a project for the third time, which was not on the Soul platform but on Outlier. I had already heard of it and was excited to dive into this project.

But then the villain emerged: technical issues. The first time I tried, I received a message stating, “Identity cannot be verified from your country.” I contacted Soul, but there was no reply.

I tried again to set up the account. This time, my account was verified, and I completed the English test, but it’s been pending review for quite some time now.

I reached out to Outlier, and they said they would review it soon. Days passed, and still nothing. Now I’m seeing a verification pending popup again.

So, I decided to quit.

After everything, I looked into Reddit, and there it was — similar complaints: no projects, no responses, no pay, and accusations of being a scam or data scraping.

One user mentioned that they were using onboarding tasks as a way to gather training data without any compensation.

I guess I should have checked this before diving in…

Conclusion

So, that’s it. I’m not ready to judge whether SOUL AI is legit or a scam because I honestly have no idea.

At this point, I’m not expecting anything more from them. If you’re planning to try it, this is what you should expect.

I hope your experience is better than mine. And if anyone has a good review about them, don’t forget to comment and let others know too!
