Why Zooming OUT Might Just Be The Way To Draw Your Desires IN

How hyper-focusing on the specifics of your goals unwittingly magnifies their absence

Here’s an experience we can all relate to:

You want something specific so badly, whether it’s that job, that house, that car, that special person…

And yet, the more you want that specific thing, the further out of reach it becomes.

What many don’t realize is that it’s that very specificity that is causing resistance and pushing our desire away.

Many experts will argue that you have to be laser-focused on what you want or else the Universe will give you mixed results.

It’s fine to know what you want, but obsessing over the details is both exhausting and counter-intuitive.

Imagine this scenario:

You sit down in a restaurant, read the menu and decide you want the chicken instead of the fish.

You order the chicken and let the waiter inform the kitchen.

Then you wait, either by engaging in conversation with your companions, or looking at your phone or reading a book.

What you don’t do is walk into the kitchen and start giving orders to the chef that the onions should be chopped in a certain way, that the sauce should be made in a smaller pan. You don’t start rearranging the herbs and spices.

Here’s what would happen if you did that:

You would delay the making of your order. You’d get in the way. You’d infuriate the chef! Get too involved and you may be ushered out the front door.

You’ve created all sorts of unnecessary resistance.

The more general you are in the beginning, the less you will be resisting it because, if you get specific about something that you really want…that you specifically don’t have…the more you just compound the current vibration and hold yourself there vibrationallly, apart from what you really want. Abraham Hicks

The more you insist on being involved in the specifics of your desire, without realizing it, the more you are focused on its absence.

We get what we focus on and if you’re focused on the absence of that car, that job, that lover, you will remain in that state of absence.

When you order that chicken dish in a restaurant, sure you want the chicken, but what you really want is to be fed. You want to satisfy your hunger.

When you want that specific car, what you really want is the feelings of owning that car:

Freedom

Pride

Excitement

Fun

When you want that specific lover what you really want is the feelings of being with that lover:

Love

Happiness

Security

Gratitude

I’ve had many crushes over the years but do you know where the love of my life came from?

Out of the blue!

I already knew him. I hadn’t considered him before.

But a life-changing event forced me to focus on what I wanted:

Love

Happiness

Security

Gratitude!

And then the Universe said:

“Hey, what about this guy over here? You’ve completely overlooked him. We think he’d be a great match for you. But you haven’t spoken in awhile. So here’s what we’re gonna do: We’re gonna nudge him to call you, you know, just to catch up...”

Before that, when I focused on a specific crush, I was really just amplifying my loneliness.

Until I zoomed out and not only switched my focus, but got blurry with it.

When out of the blue, he emerged.

My lack of specific focus helped me release the resistance I was creating by unknowingly focusing on my loneliness.

“What you resist not only persists, but will grow in size.” Carl Jung

Zooming out means focusing on how you want to feel, not the specific means that will get you there.

Zooming out gives the Universe more room to maneuver on your behalf. Just like how getting out of the kitchen allows the chef to get to work on your order.

So, how about getting out of your own way, and zooming out?

As Abraham Hicks say:

Just go general.

Here I am with that guy I originally overlooked. Thank you, Universe!
