What does perfect mean to you?
Think about it.
For now, I’ll introduce you to AnaKi, who sings about what perfect means to her.
I had the honour to listen to the sneak peek of the song “Perfect”. I was intrigued already.
What I look for in songs is the beat, the lyrics and especially the chorus. The song ticked all the boxes.
When I first heard the song “Perfect”, I thought the meaning of the song was about personal growth through faith, but if you think it through, the song is about the waiting season. It’s about allowing God to change you into the person He wants you to be before He sends you on the mission He has planned for you.
In a style reminiscent of Annatoria, Sinmidile, and SSTEDI, AnaKi captures the essence of Christian afro fusion with her new song “Perfect”, bringing a fresh yet familiar sound that combines afrobeat with gospel messages for an audience searching for non-secular music.
The hook is catchy, it has a memorable melody, and it encourages you to sing along. The hook fosters a strong sense of praise and establishes the song’s overall spiritual mood.
Let’s talk about the vocals, though.
The vocalising was on point, and she sang so well. The song’s lyrics have an emphasis on the message, and I appreciate a song that has a deep meaning.
The pre-chorus creates anticipation and has a catchy melody. I noticed a change in rhythm, which I can describe as a gentle, almost indescribable feeling. My favourite part of the song was the verse; it flowed smoothly, was engaging, and nicely blends the Afro-fusion genre with the contemporary sound, resulting in a good musical composition. The lyric in the verse “Ain’t got me here for no reason/ Got my back in every season”. That lyric is meaningful to me; it emphasises trusting in God’s guidance. I connect with the lyrics because whenever I am feeling down, I always remember that God has my back.
The second verse in “Perfect” was written perfectly; it showed good lyricism and demonstrated her good vocal range. The intro to “Perfect” opened with a strong Afrobeat sound, establishing an upbeat and energetic vibe.
I am not familiar with the genre, as I usually listen to worship music, but listening to AnaKi’s new song “Perfect” allowed me to discover similar songs. The song “Perfect” is something I would listen to when I feel sad and I need something to cheer me up, or I might listen to it when I am happy, to boost my energy.
The song was met with praise from its audience, receiving over 5k streams on Spotify. The song has been featured on @afrogospelmovement and @thegospelmixtape on Instagram, and it was also added to the pages’ public playlist.
And over to you now, what does perfect mean to you?
Listen to Perfect on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
