When a routine cargo flight turned into a national nightmare

July 7, 2026 will be remembered as one of the darkest days in Pakistan’s aviation history. A K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo plane, flying from Sharjah to Karachi, crashed into the Arabian Sea under mysterious circumstances.

The aircraft was carrying five Pakistani crew members — Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idrees, First Officer Faisal Jatoi, Load Master Muhammad Taufeeq Khan, Engineer Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, and Muhammad Hameed. All were seasoned professionals with years of experience.

The pilot reported a navigation system malfunction at 9:18 PM and just three minutes later, at 9:21 PM, the plane vanished from radar. It had gone down approximately 287 kilometers west of Karachi.

After nearly 12 hours of relentless search operations, Pakistan Navy discovered the wreckage near Ormara coast, roughly 100 kilometers offshore. But the five crew members remain missing.

The families are in agony. The nation prays. Navy divers continue their operation in deep waters where the main structure may lie at 3000 meters depth — a search that could take months or even years.

This tragedy brings back painful memories of the PIA Karachi crash in 2020 that claimed 97 lives. Yet again, we are reminded of how fragile life is, especially for those who serve the nation from the skies.
