Training outdoors offers a sense of freedom you just don’t get in a gym. Fresh air, natural light, and open space combine to supercharge your motivation and performance. But the real magic happens when you pair that environment with functional, challenging movements that build real-world strength and power.
If you’re looking to transform your outdoor workouts, these six exercises will push your limits and deliver results. They blend calisthenics, explosive power, and athletic conditioning for a total-body session you can do almost anywhere.
I love working out on a sunny day on a nice park and did this post to try to inspire a reader to have a go at some of the exercises.

Let’s get Started
Make sure you can do at least 8 good bar dips before even attempting these.
1 ) Ring pull ups
Back , rear deltoids, biceps , core
Suspension rings are the ultimate test of bodyweight pulling strength. Ring pull-ups develop your lats, biceps, grip, and upper back, with the added bonus of challenging your stabilisers far more than a straight pull-up bar. You’ll notice how the rings want to twist, forcing your body to coordinate and stabilise – giving you a more intense and joint-friendly challenge.

It Was nearly harder setting them up 😅
Pro tip: Keep your shoulders active and engage your scapula at the start of each rep. If you’re new to rings, start with assisted pull-ups or band support.
2. Ring Chest Dips
Chest , deltoids, triceps and core
Another ring essential, the chest dip targets your pecs, shoulders, and triceps while delivering a powerful core challenge. Rings allow your shoulders to move more freely compared to parallel bars, which can help reduce strain if your form is tight.
Set the rings just below chest height, jump or step into position, and dip down with control before pressing back up. Focus on a steady tempo, avoiding excessive swing, and keep your shoulders packed to protect your joints.

3. Mace Bell Tire Slams
Can use sledgehammer just didn’t have one 😃
The mace bell is a serious old-school tool that builds grip, shoulders, and rotational strength. Combine it with a tire slam for a primal, full-body power movement that is as satisfying as it is effective.
Swing the mace bell overhead with a slight rotational bias, then slam it down onto a large tire with maximum force. Reset, repeat, and watch your conditioning and explosiveness skyrocket.

Note: Focus on hip drive and core stability, not just arm power, to protect your lower back.
4. Sprints
Raw speed. Full effort. No equipment needed.
Sprinting is the ultimate bodyweight power builder. It trains your fast-twitch muscle fibres, improves athletic posture, and fires up your CNS like no other. Whether you’re chasing performance or fat loss, short sprint intervals torch calories and develop real-world athleticism.
How to do it:
starting out
• Mark out 20 – 30m on flat ground or a grass field if your just starting out.
To progress
. Then can up the distance as get used to but probably stop at 100 meters so you can go all out with them
• Start with 4 – 6 sprints at 80 – 90% intensity
• Walk back slowly for recovery rest 1 to minute
• Progress to 8 – 10 sprints as conditioning improves and add maybe 60 to 100 meters
Sprinting isn’t just cardio – it’s strength, power, and intent at top speed. You don’t need a track. You just need eff
Make sure you are experienced in running even short distances before you start sprinting.

5. Ring L-Hold
One of the best static holds to torch your abs and hip flexors, the ring L-hold is a next-level core challenge. Hang from the rings and raise your legs straight in front of you, holding them parallel to the ground.
It’s simple in theory, brutal in practice. Your shoulders, core, quads, and even grip get a serious workout maintaining this hold. Start with bent knees if needed and progress to fully straight legs.

6. Banded Broad Jumps
Broad jumps already build raw horizontal power, but adding a resistance band around your waist takes it to another level. Anchor the band behind you and perform a powerful jump forward, resisting the backward pull.
This drill develops your glutes, quads, and posterior chain, while improving landing mechanics and overall athletic performance. Think of it as explosive sprint prep for your next field session or obstacle course.

You can use these 6 exercises into a program you can do 3 x per week
1. ( 3 x as many ring chest dips )
Rest 90 secs to 2 minutes in between each set
2. ( 3 x as many ring pull ups )
Rest 90 secs to 2 minutes between each set
3. ( 3 x 10 banded broad jumps )
Rest 1 minute between each one
4. Sprints
6 to 10 x sprints as above or add more rounds and 60 to 100 meters sprints for the more experienced.
5. ( mace bell / sledgehammer tyre swings )
3 to 4 – 30 secs each side swings keep it explosive 🧨
6 . ( Ring l holds )
3 x as long as can hold
Rest 1 minute between each one
Supersets
You can always superset the exercises example do the ring dips then with no rest do the banded broad jumps then rest 1 minute and repeat 2 more times.
Final Thoughts
Outdoor workouts don’t have to be boring jogs around the park. With simple tools like rings, bands, hurdles, and a mace bell, you can create a functional, full-body program that challenges you in ways a gym never could.
Train hard, stay consistent, and enjoy the freedom of nature – your body (and mind) will thank you.
